About the course
Astrology is a tool which anyone can learn to use as an aid to self-understanding and navigating life in general. However, it is not easy getting started if one is relying on solely on books. Confusion often sets in when one is confronted with a wide range of unfamiliar material. By taking classes with an experienced astrologer, you can quickly get to the heart of the matter, avoid misconceptions (and there are a lot of those to avoid!), and of course have questions answered and clearly explained.
You will discover very quickly that astrology is not fortune-telling, and is far more useful than that. It is a tool of empowerment which enables you to adopt and maintain a proactive approach to your life.
This series of three workshops is designed to put you on a solid footing. On completing the course, you will not be a fully fledged astrologer, because that takes a prolonged period of study and practice. However, you will be able to read your own birth chart, understand what the symbol patterns it contains are referring too, and follow what is happening astrologically in your life as it progresses.
Applying what is learned will deepen your self-awareness. It will also help you to clarify problematical situations and get a perspective on timing - why events are happening now, what can be learned from the experiences, when turning points will be reached, when to act, and so on.
Completing the course will get you to the point where, if desired, you will be in a position to attend future workshops which dig deeper and will introduce you to other facets of astrology, such as how to draw up a horoscope, relationship astrology, and so on.
Whether one is motivated by a desire to eventually become a practicing astrologer or simply learn the basics for application in one's own life, this course will provide a sound foundation for achieving the goal.
Topics covered in the course will include:
- what astrology is not!
- where astrology comes from.
- the nature of symbols.
- the horoscope and its components.
- the meanings of planetary symbols.
- the 12 zodiac signs and the 4 elements.
- the 4 angles and the 12 houses.
- the aspects.
- basic chart interpretation
- how to read an ephemeris.
- planetary transits and the astrological climate.
Course notes will be provided, and each participant will be given a copy of their own horoscope so they can learn more about themselves and astrology at the same time! I will be contacting you after your booking submission to ask for your birth data, so I can prepare your horoscope in advance of the workshops.
Information about myself
I have been practicing in Ireland as a professional astrologer since 1987. I have a deep interest in the nature of astrology, and have written many articles on the subject in astrology journals and for the astrologer community in 'cyberspace'. Invitations to speak at astrology conferences have brought me to the USA, UK, Italy, Spain and Denmark. I edited and produced Réalta, the journal of the Irish Astrological Association, for the first four years of its existence, and was the organiser of their 21st annual astrology conference in 1997. I have been teaching astrology courses since 1992.
